Discover a Simple Method to Save Edits Without Publishing in WordPress

So, you have a WordPress post or page that needs tweaking, but you don’t want to publish the changes right away. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to save your edits as a draft without immediately making them live. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process step by step.

Save Edits using the Duplicate Post Plugin

The Duplicate Post plugin is a handy tool that allows you to save your edits without publishing them immediately. With just a single click, you can create a temporary duplicate of any page or post on your WordPress website while preserving all the original settings. Once you’re satisfied with your changes, you can merge them with the original post.

Here’s how to save edits without publishing using the Duplicate Post plugin:

  1. Install and Activate the Plugin: The first step is to install and activate the Duplicate Post plugin on your WordPress site. You can easily find and install the plugin from the WordPress plugin directory.
  2. Access the Posts Page: Go to the Posts » All Posts page in your WordPress dashboard.
  3. Select a Post: Hover over the post you want to edit, and you’ll notice three new options added by the plugin: ‘Clone’, ‘New Draft’, and ‘Rewrite & Republish’.
  4. Create a Duplicate: Click on the ‘Rewrite & Republish’ link under the post you want to edit. This will instantly generate a duplicate version of the post and open it in the post editor.
  5. Make Edits: Now, you have the freedom to edit this draft post without affecting the live version. As you make changes, the plugin will automatically save drafts for you.
  6. View and Finalize: To find the saved post, go back to the Posts » All Posts page in your WordPress admin sidebar. Look for the post marked as ‘Draft, Rewrite & Republish’. From there, you can preview the post using the ‘Preview’ button or review the changes with the ‘Save changes and compare’ button, which opens a side-by-side comparison screen.
  7. Schedule or Publish: You can choose to publish your edited post right away or schedule it for a future date. Simply click on the ‘Republish:’ option and adjust the date if needed. Once you’re ready, hit the ‘Republish’ button again.
  8. Notification of Changes: After republishing, you will receive a notification indicating that the original post has been replaced by the edited version. The changes you made to the cloned post will now be reflected in the original post on the specified date.

By following these steps, you can easily save your edits without publishing them in WordPress using the Duplicate Post plugin. This is especially useful when you want to make extensive changes, create drafts for review, or redesign your website.
