What is Java?

Java is a high-level, general-purpose programming language created by James Gosling and his team at Sun Microsystems in the mid-1990s. It was originally designed to be a platform-independent language that could run on any hardware or operating system. Java is a class-based, object-oriented language that also supports functional programming. It is compiled into bytecode that can run on any Java Virtual Machine (JVM), making it highly portable across different platforms.

Why to learn Java in 2023?

Java is widely used in the development of web applications, mobile applications, desktop applications, and enterprise software. It has a large and active community of developers who have created a vast array of libraries, frameworks, and tools to make programming in Java easier and more efficient.

Features of Java

Some of the key features of Java include its robustness, security, and scalability. Java has a strong type system and automatic memory management, which helps to prevent common programming errors such as buffer overflows and null pointer exceptions. It also includes a powerful standard library that provides support for a wide range of tasks, including networking, I/O, concurrency, and more.

This tutorial starts from very basics of Java to Java advance:

  • Java Variables, Literals, and Constants
  • Java Data Types
  • Java Operators
  • Java Control Statements (if-else, for-loop, while-loop, do-while loop, switch-case, continue, break, return)
  • Java Arrays
  • Java Strings
  • Java Functions (methods)
  • Java Object-Oriented Programming (classes, objects, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation)
  • Java Interfaces
  • Java Exception Handling
  • Java I/O (File I/O, Byte Streams, Character Streams)
  • Java Generics
  • Java Collections (Lists, Sets, Maps, Queues)
  • Java Multithreading and Concurrency
  • Java Reflection
  • Java Annotations
  • Java Lambda Expressions
  • Java Streams API

Java is a versatile programming language that can be used for a wide range of applications. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced developer, learning Java can open up many opportunities for you in the world of software development.
