Improve Your Website’s Appeal with a Portfolio That Can Be Filtered

If you are a creative professional looking to showcase your work on your WordPress website, a filterable portfolio can be a valuable addition. It allows you to present your projects in an organized and visually appealing manner. By enabling visitors to sort and view your portfolio items based on tags, a filterable portfolio makes it easy for them to find what interests them. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating a filterable portfolio in WordPress.

The Advantages of Having a Filterable Portfolio

A filterable portfolio offers numerous benefits, whether you are a photographer specializing in different genres or a designer with various projects. It enables you to showcase your work under specific tags, making it easier for potential clients to evaluate your expertise in different areas. For example, if you are a fashion photographer, clients interested in fashion-related projects can quickly access your portfolio by selecting the fashion tag. Furthermore, a filterable portfolio enhances the user experience by allowing visitors to easily browse and sort through your items.

Getting Started with Envira Gallery

If you want to create a filterable portfolio, we recommend using the Envira Gallery plugin. It is a premium WordPress plugin that offers various features to enhance your portfolio display. To begin, you need to install and activate the Envira Gallery plugin on your WordPress website. If you are unsure how to do this, refer to our step-by-step guide on installing WordPress plugins.

Once activated, go to the Envira Gallery » Settings page and enter your license key. You can find your license key in your account on the Envira Gallery website. Simply paste it into the designated field and click the ‘Verify Key’ button. This will enable you to receive updates for the plugin.

Adding the Tags Addon and Creating Your Filterable Portfolio

To add tags to your portfolio items and create a filterable portfolio, you need to install the Tags Addon. On the Envira Gallery » Addons page, locate the Tags Addon and click on the ‘Install’ button. Envira Gallery will automatically fetch and install the addon for you. Once installed, click on the ‘Activate’ button to start using the addon.

With the Tags Addon activated, you are now ready to create your filterable portfolio. Visit the Envira Gallery » Add New page to create your first gallery. Choose a name that accurately represents your portfolio. Next, you can upload photos directly from your computer or select files from the WordPress media library.

After adding your photos, click on the pencil icon to edit an image. A popup window will appear, allowing you to add tags and other metadata to the photo. Enter the relevant tags for the image, separating them with commas. Once done, click ‘Save Metadata’ to store the tags. Repeat this process for all the images in your gallery.

Enabling Tag Filtering for Your Portfolio

After adding tags to your photos, click on the ‘Tags’ tab on the left side of the gallery page. This is where you can enable tag filtering for your portfolio. Check the ‘Enable Tag Filtering?’ box to activate tag filtering. You will then have access to various settings, such as displaying tags above or below the gallery and choosing which tags to show.

Take your time to configure these display settings according to your preferences. Once you are satisfied, click on the ‘Publish’ button to make your filterable portfolio live on your website.

Displaying Your Filterable Portfolio on Your Website

Now that your filterable portfolio is ready, you can add it to any post or page on your WordPress website. If you are using the block editor, simply add an Envira Gallery block to your article. In the block settings, select your published gallery from the ‘Search for a gallery’ dropdown menu.

For those using the classic editor, click the ‘Add Gallery’ button below the post or page title. A popup window will appear, allowing you to select the gallery you just created. Insert the gallery into your post or page, and then save your changes.

Finally, update your post or page to save your modifications. Preview your website to see your filterable portfolio in action and ensure that everything looks as intended.

Conclusion

Creating a filterable portfolio in WordPress can greatly enhance your ability to effectively showcase your work. By using the Envira Gallery plugin and the Tags Addon, you can create a visually appealing and user-friendly filterable portfolio on your WordPress website. Start organizing your portfolio today and impress your visitors with a clean and intuitive display of your work.
