Improve User Experience by Adding a Login Form to Your WordPress Sidebar
Display the Default WordPress Login Form
Make it easy for users to log in to your WordPress website by adding a login form to your sidebar. This is especially useful for membership websites, online stores, and platforms that offer online courses. In this article, we will guide you through the process of adding a custom login form to your WordPress sidebar.
Step 1: Show the Default WordPress Login Form
The first step is to display the default WordPress login form in your sidebar. This allows users to conveniently enter their login credentials and access the WordPress admin area.
To get started, go to your WordPress dashboard and go to Appearance » Widgets. Click on the ‘+ Add a Widget’ button and scroll down to the ‘Theme’ section. Find the ‘Login/out’ widget block and click on it to add it to your sidebar.
Once added, the ‘Login/out’ block will appear in your widgets area. Enable the options to display the login as a form and make any desired modifications. Finally, click the ‘Update’ button to save your changes.
Note: If you test the form immediately, you will be logged in. To see how the form appears to your members, log out of your site.
Step 2: Create a Custom Login Form
The default WordPress login form only has a username and password field. However, by using the WPForms plugin, you can design a custom user login form with additional fields and customization options.
Start by downloading and installing the WPForms plugin. Once activated, enter your license key on the WPForms » Settings page. Next, go to the WPForms » Addons page and find the ‘User Registration Addon’. Click on the ‘Install Addon’ button to install and activate it on your website.
Now you can start building your custom WordPress login form. Go to the WPForms » Add New page to open the WPForms builder. Enter a form name and choose the ‘User Login Form’ template. Use the drag-and-drop builder to add or edit fields and customize the form design.
WPForms offers a variety of form fields to choose from, including name and CAPTCHA fields. After designing the form, go to the Settings tab and specify the action to be taken when a user successfully logs in, such as redirecting them to a specific page.
Once you’ve saved your form, go back to the Appearance » Widgets page in your WordPress admin area. Add the ‘WPForms’ widget block to the sidebar widget area of your website. Select your custom login form from the dropdown menu, configure any additional settings if needed, and click the ‘Update’ button.
Finally, visit your website and see the custom login form in action. WPForms can also be used to create a user registration form with anti-spam features, further enhancing the user experience.
By adding a customized login form to your WordPress sidebar, you can provide a seamless login process for users and increase engagement on your website. We hope you found this tutorial helpful.
